First Steps

(For our records...)

Today, Bobby took a couple of steps for the first time, all by himself! He has been pretty comfortable cruising the furniture and walls for awhile. He certainly may have made these few steps accidentally, instead of intentionally. But nonetheless, they happened! I'm sure he'll cruise for awhile longer, as I'm not too sure if he's ready to embark on walking quite yet. All in his own time...

Either way, we've got to have the Flip camera ready! :)

Flashback Friday

When I was growing up, the cool after-school activity was to be a Pop Warner Cheerleader. Did you have Pop Warner in your hometown? Anyhow, I cheered religiously through elementary and middle school. I would have gone on to high school, but instead, decided to devote my free time to playing softball (another childhood obsession). Anyhow, cheering kept me pretty busy. We had practice a couple of times a week, and a game each Saturday. Gosh, I remember sweating so badly during those Saturday games! But, they were FUN. We also competed each year against the local schools in a fun cheer and dance competition (think Bring It On). Of course, it was intense in our young minds! This picture was taken after one of those competitions. I believe this was 6th grade...

Looks like we scored 2nd place!

Our Little Piece of Heaven

Over the course of this blog's history, I've gotten a lot of comments and questions regarding our fabulous neighborhood. I have been completely obsessed with our "little piece of heaven" for quite awhile now. Before we even moved, I was staking out our new home. Remember this post?

As Bobby has gotten older, and we've met more people, I could not feel more blessed that this is our home. The amenities here are fantastic, and everything is perfectly manicured, and simply beautiful. It is the perfect place to raise a family, and I would not want to live anywhere else. I remember last fall, during one of my early evening runs, how europhic I felt as I was running through our neighborhood. There was a chill in the air, the sun was setting, and everyone's homes were decorated for Halloween. It just felt perfect. This is the kind of feeling I get almost daily!

Now, with all of that being said, sometimes I feel like we live in a bubble (i.e. The Truman Show), but I almost like that aspect of the community. There is never a dull moment here, which is a blessing to me, as a stay-at-home mom. The pool, park, or trails are always full of my friends, and acquaintances. With a simple text, or Facebook email, I can usually round up at least one friend to hang out with during the day. Playtime with Bobby, errands, exercise, and our neighborhood give us plenty to do on a daily basis.

Nate Berkus and Oprah always speak of how your home should be a sanctuary for you. I agree wholeheartedly. And, in our case, our community is an extension of that.

What makes your home or neighborhood so great? Are you a suburbanite, city dweller, or country gal?

Mommy and Me Monday

I cheated a bit this week... this photo was actually taken over a month ago! But, I wanted to document on our blog, so here ya go!

This picture was taken on Bobby's first birthday. We were hanging out in the petting zoo, at the zoo! He's surrounded by his cousins here, just taking it all in. Love it!

Brushing Teeth, Mohawks, and Afro's?

As is, in probably most households, bath time with Daddy is always more fun! Last week, Bob called me from Bobby's bathroom to come upstairs with the camera. He had created some very distinguishing bath-do's for Bobby!

And, that same night, Bobby had his first taste of brushing his teeth at the sink, with a big boy toothbrush. Until now, we had always used a finger brush, in the tub, to scrub his 6 teeth. I may be jumping the gun, but we now brush his teeth at the sink, starting the habit early on. He seemed to like the real toothbrush better than the finger brush.

"Mom, this is SO embarrassing! Stop taking my picture."

Scrub, scrub, scrub... brush, brush, brush...

Good job Bobby!

Punk Baby!

Coming soon to an arena near you!

Ice Cube?

George Washington?

Maybe a little bit of Richard Simmons?

Howard Stern? Nah....

Nope! It's just Bobby w/ a Bath-fro Afro!
