Five Months Old

Bobby turned Five months old on September 30, 2009.

Weight: 14.8 lbs.
Length: 25 inches

Sleeping Patterns: Bobby's sleeping patterns have been strange the past couple of weeks. We went out of town two weeks ago, and he was also sick with a cold. Since then, he has been waking up several times after we put him down for the night. He is also waking up in the early morning hours (4am/5am). Lately, we have been bringing him into our bed so we can get more sleep. His naps are still short, but I feel like they are starting to get back to normal again. I am guessing he'll just be pretty inconsistent until he's a year old. Next, we'll have to deal with teething! We are still starting his bedtime routine each night at 7pm.

Eating Habits: We tried cereal for the first time a week or so after his four month birthday. I did not feel he was ready to start solids, so we have put this off. We may start this month, we may not. He is eating now between 7-8 oz. of formula each feeding. He, on average, eats five times per day.

New discoveries & Accomplishments: There is lots to report this month! Bobby has rolled over! He started about 3 weeks ago. He is also doing better with tummy time. He still does not like it very much, but he is at least doing mini-pushups with his arms. It is too cute. He is also sitting better in his Bumbo seat. He still leans a little bit, but I think he'll be fully supporting himself over the next couple of weeks. He is still talking like crazy, and laughing more too. He especially laughs when I tickle his belly. He is actually starting to outgrow his Activity mat. He seems to be bored with it lately. He is now using his Exersaucer and Jumparoo. He sat in his Exersaucer the other day while I made dinner, and it was great! We also will watch Baby Einstein some days. I usually use it as a last resort, when I need the TV to "babysit" him. He has also started to grab for his toys, and hold them. Of course, everything goes straight to the mouth.

"Ooohhh, paper! I want to put this in my mouth!"

Places you love: Sleeping in mommy and daddy's bed, his Exersaucer, Jumparoo, Bumbo seat, and taking walks or runs in the stroller. He also loves his Kindermusik class we attend on Monday mornings.

Special Friends: Bobby has hung out with a lot of friends this month. He sees Drew weekly. Today he had lunch with Harper!

Current Events: Football season is in full force. The Gators are undefeated, and are still ranked #1! Politics is, as usual - health care reform, the war in Afghanistan, etc... Patrick Swayze passed away too. He was in one of mommy's most favorite movies, Dirty Dancing.

What We did This Day: We had a fun day today! Fall is starting, and it was another beautiful day outside. We went to Do It Yourself Crafts with Ginger & Harper and got our footprints made. We then went to lunch. Afterwards, we ran to Publix, and came home.

Flashback Friday

Five years ago tomorrow, Bob and I went on our first date. This Flashback Friday is in honor of us!

Enjoy some pictures of us taken over the past few years...

Like Father, Like Son

Look at Bobby checkin' out her Hooters! Ha ha!

Alabama Coastal Triathlon

The entire reason for our trip down to Gulf Shores was for Bob to compete in his first Olympic Triathlon. The Alabama Coastal Triathlon was held on Saturday morning, September 19th.

Bob got up at 4:30 am, and headed over to Bart and Amy's place to pick up Bart. Meanwhile, around 8am, Amy drove to our place and picked up Bobby and me.

Drew and Bobby in the backseat of Amy's Tahoe. Bobby didn't seem to be a happy camper here!

Unfortunately, Amy and I missed both boys transitioning from their swim to their bike ride. Bob completed his swim (almost a mile, in the ocean) in 25 minutes and 1 second. The waters were choppy. As a matter of fact, there were red caution flags all over the beach, except where the participants swam. Those flags were yellow. Hmmm... Overall, Bob thought the swim portion was pretty tough.

While waiting for the boys at the finish for the bike ride, Amy and I got our picture taken with the babies.

Go Gators! We ended up beating Tennessee this day.

Here is Bob transitioning off of his bike. Bob biked the 24 miles in 1 hour, 11 minutes, and 4 seconds. His average speed was 20.6 mph. He felt the bike portion went very well. He felt very strong, and passed many people.

Look at those biceps! ;-)

The last portion of the event was the 6 mile run. Bob ran this in 1 hour, 3 minutes, and 39 seconds. His average pace was 10 minutes, 37 seconds. The run was the most difficult part for Bob. His legs felt tight, and he did not feel good until about after the third mile. Plus, the weather was over 90 degrees. Bob kept his mind off of things by counting his steps. He also thought the salt water from the swim kept him dehydrated. He was very happy to see the final turn of the race!

Bob heading toward the finish line!

Overall, Bob's final time was 2 hours, 43 minutes, and 29 seconds.

What an amazing accomplishment! Go Bob!

Congrats to Bart and Bob for completing the triathlon! We are so very proud!

After the race, Bob got a picture with Bobby with the race's venue, The Hangout in the background.

"I'm so proud of my daddy!"

We are all so proud of you Bob!

Great job!

Bobby's First Beach Trip

As mentioned in a previous post, Bobby had his first trip to the beach during our stay in Gulf Shores. We were only there for a couple of hours, because of the sun and the babies. Plus, it was hot! Bob and Bart were able to swim in the ocean, in preparation for the triathlon the next morning. For most of the trip, Bob and I kept joking around with each other about being at the beach in Alabama. Whaaaat?!?!

First family picture at the beach! I am hoping we make an annual trip to the beach each year as a family.

"Bobby, what do you think of all this sand?"

"Mommy, I'm not so sure about this water! It's cold!"

"Ok Mommy, as long as you and Daddy are here... I'm ok!"

Gulf Shores Trip

If you are close to our family (and, a friend of Bob's on Facebook), then I'm sure you've noticed that he has been doing a lot of training these past few months. Well, this past weekend, the training paid off. We headed down to Gulf Shores, AL for Bob's first Olympic Triathlon. The Alabama Coastal Triathlon was held on Saturday, September 19th.

We drove down Thursday morning, and came home on Sunday. It was a fun trip that was shared with our friends the Wilder's. Bob and Bart both participated in the race. For those of you not familiar, an Olympic Triathlon is about a mile swim, 24 mile bike ride, and 6 mile run. The weather hung out around the 90 degree mark, so, as you can imagine, it was tough!

We woke up on Friday morning, and headed to the beach. (I'll post more about Bobby's first beach trip soon. I forgot our camera, and have to get the pictures from Amy).

After the beach, we headed home for showers and naps for the babies. Afterwards, we went to The Hangout for a pre-race meal (for the guys), packet pick-up, and an early dinner for Amy and myself.

Bob and I at The Hangout.

The boys chillaxin' on the table while we ate. I can't get enough of these pictures of the two of them!

Bobby fell asleep in Daddy's arms after dinner.

After dinner family picture by the beach.

Well, after this night, our camera battery died. Thankfully, the Wilder's were able to take plenty of pictures for us. As soon as I get the pictures from Amy, I will complete our trip update, as well as Bob's stats from the triathlon.

***On a mushy note... We are so thankful and blessed to have the Wilder's as friends. Our husbands have so much in common, and Amy and I do too. We actually joke around quite a bit, of how we are long lost twins. And, the icing on the cake is having sons that are just six weeks apart. Neither of us have family in Birmingham, so it is wonderful to have a family that you truly can count on, and have fun with. {Ok, mushy note is done... }

Pure Cuteness.

All cozy after my bath!

BFF!

Taken at 4 months of age.

Taken at 6 weeks of age.

Go here to see more recent pictures of Bobby!

I eat Cereal!

We gave Bobby cereal for the first time today. He did pretty well, but he definitely got more on his bib, then his tummy! It was a fun sight to see.

Enjoy the pictures!
